I am a practising English lawyer with Level One Japanese proficiency. As such, I am uniquely placed to translate Japanese legal documents into English.

The impetus for starting Legal Japanese Limited came during my legal training contract at a law firm in central Manchester. I was drafting amendments to commercial contracts which had been translated into English from a foreign language and finding the English unnatural and difficult to interpret. Not only was it clear that the translator was not legally trained, we could not contact them directly as the translation had been arranged through an agency. This made the contract negotiation process impossible to manage and we had to arrange for the translation to be re-done.
